The National Service Scheme popularly known as NSS is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. The scheme was launched in Gandhiji’s Centenary year in 1969.
The cardinal principle of the programme is that it is organised by the students themselves and both students and teachers through their combined participation in social service, get a sense of involvement in the tasks of national development
Objectives
- Understand the community in which they work
- Understand themselves in relation to their community
- Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving
- Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
- Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems
- Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
- Gain skills in mobilizing community participation
- Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
- Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and practise national integration and social harmony

Aim
The aim of NSS is to provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service and inculcate feeling of social welfare in students.
Activities Conducted
Under NSS a number of activities are conducted every year.
- Celebrate Raksha Bandhan Program every year. Students tie Rakhis to the plants. This activity is conducted to aware the students about the importance of plants. Students also tie Rakhis to policemen at Pimpri Police chowki.
- Under Swatch Bharat Abhiyaan number of activities are conducted. Cleanliness drive in college campus, cleaning Pimpri railway station and participated in Sinhagad cleanliness drive.
- Tree plantation activity is conducted every year. Indian plants like neem, wad, jambhule etc were planted. Some of the places where plantation activity is conducted are Banner hill, Dehugaon, College campus, Aaiyappa temple hill Dehuroad, Nigdi roadside way to Dehuroad etc.
- Blood donation camp is organized in collaboration with hospitals every year. Many students as well as teachers participate enthusiastically in blood donation camp.
- Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated in college by conducting various activities like slogan competition, essay writing competition, Extempore, showing documentary film to students etc.
- Guest lectures on different topics Nirmal wari, Malin disasters, yoga etc is organized.
- To create voting awareness among the student’s different activities are conducted like slogan competition, poster competition, essay writing, taking pledge.
- 15th August and on 26th January different activities are conducted by NSS volunteers. Singing competition (patriotic songs), essay writing etc.
- Helped in different areas to distribute food to warkaries and cleaning the area after wari. Distributed cloth and paper bags to warkaris to make to avoid plastic use.
- Awareness Rallies are organized about AIDS, Cleanliness, Avoid Plastic use, Road safety etc.
- Helping for Eco friendly Ganapati Visarjan: Visarjan in artificial tanks. Conducted a workshop on making eco-friendly Ganapati idol.
